All while knowing that DRM won't interfere with my choice of e-reader, and knowing that my library is organised exactly how I like it, from the book covers to the formatting to the naming scheme and more, and most importantly that no-one can mess with my purchases (e.g. It means I can enjoy my Kobo Sage today but stay comfortable in the knowledge that my ebook library is under my control (not Kobo's or Amazon's), and that should I switch e-readers at any time, it's a simple process to use Calibre to transfer whatever books I like. You're not locked into a store based on your previous purchases. Calibre can be used with certain plugins to strip the DRM from your purchased books, as well as organise other ebooks without DRM, so that in a few years when it's time to replace your Kobo Sage, you'll know that your Calibre library is completely organised and fully compatible with any e-reader from any company. Books purchased via Amazon or Kobo contain DRM (digital rights management) which aims to prevent you transferring those books to e-readers built by a competing company to keep you locked in to their own store. It's fantastic software for managing and maintaining your ebook library over time. The forum you were linked to was most likely the same forum the person who replied to you uses themselves, along with other Calibre users. It's not a business, and they're not selling a product, and so there is no customer service. Apparently customer service is not their strong suit.Ĭalibre is a free and open source application that's developed by volunteers. I contacted Calibre, and they didn't respond to any of my questions, but just sent a link to a discussion board, which tells me I need to download an epub on my computer- which leads me to the same questions above.
